Demolition Plan

As mentioned in class, here a sample of Demolition Plan for the same project from one of your fellow students last semester.

Please note the Structural Grid as we started in classes, the Demolition Notes ( copy from the handout of the first class) and the Wall Legend both on the right side of your drawing.

This drawing shows demolition also of the exerior windows. This is wrong, since we will not modify the exerior walls and elevations at all, so please show the existing exterior windows with continuous lines as we learnt in class.

Agenda for Friday 02/13/09

FYI, here the agenda for tomorrow class Friday 02/13/09.

- Presentation of the Semester Project, Midterm deliverables.
- Lecture: Title Block, Demo Plan, Typical Drawing Set Up Sequence.
- In class practise:
- Studen Presentation of the drawing "My room" to the class
- Title Block to use for your semester project
- Demo Plan (to finish at home)

Thanks!

Reminder Oral Presentation of your Bedroom Drawing tomorrow Friday 02/13/09

Please be reminded that - as explained on the handout for the Scale exercise (technical drawing of your bedroom at 3 different scales) - tomorrow we will have a fun exercise. Each of you will present the drawing of your bedroom to the rest of the class describing the design of the space where you currently live.
Don't panic. This will be purely a practise for you in preparation of the final project presentation at the end of the semester that you will do in front of the class as you will during your professional life in front of a real client.
Let's make it fun and interactive!

Assignments for Friday 02/13/09

Hi Everyone,

Here again the assignments for next class (Friday the 13th) expecially for the students that have missed the class.

- Scale: draw your room at 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" scale on a 18"x24" vellum sheet, based on the measurements taken last week.

- Hand Lettering practice: Write on a 8.5"x11" vellum using two different pencils (at least one H for the lighter guidelines and one B or HB for the actual letters) additional two paragraphs of your choise from last week handout (the architects' bios).

- Read the handouts and Chapters 3, 4 pag. 31-33 of your book.

- Finish drawing our classroom at 1/4" scale started in class.

Regarding the assignment about scale, I've just found an example from last semester done from one of your fellow students.
Take a look at it in terms of overall organization of the drawing. Don't worry about the title block and drawing title (will we go over them this Frinday) but show as many info as you can about the space where you live.

Thanks.

Drawings from the Salk Institute

Here some of the original drawings of the Salk Institute. You'll see floor plans at the garden level, upper level and studies of the typical floor plans for each lab.

Feel free to print all or part of them at the computer lab at school to further study them. I reduced the size of the files to 11"x17" for easy printing.

The Salk Institute by Louis Kahn

To get you inspired, here the original drawing (handdrafted of course) of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies (1965) in La Jolla (San Diego) designed by Louis Kahn, one of the most famous American architects.
